Lahti City Youth Services – “Being Young Is Not A Crime!”

 
The tasks and activities of Lahti city youth services are based on the Youth Act, where the responsibilities of municipal youth work are defined:
 
The Youth Act (9.2.2006) provides for the improvement of young people’s living conditions and youth services. The purpose of this Act is to promote equality between generations, genders and different regions, tolerance and the plurality of cultures ant to promote sustainable development. The purpose of this Act is to create favourable conditions for young people’s civic activities. A young person is a person under 29 years of age.
 
In the municipality of Lahti, youth services belong to Department of Education and Culture. In political decision-making, the Board of Education and Culture looks after duties connected with the sector. The main aim of youth services is to enhance the well being of young people by both communal / social and individual support and activities.
 
The key tasks of youth services are:
  • Promoting youth participation and social empowerment
  • Unformal education
  • Social youth work
The proficient employees of youth services work in various units.
